[8.16.27] Diamondbacks 2, Mets 1 – The two best teams in the NL meet up in an old fashioned pitchers duel. Marquez (10-4) 8.1ip 7h 2er 1bb 8k 1hr, but the offense can't help him out. The Mets leave 11 men on base, including having the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8^th with one out and couldn't score and then had the tying run at third with two out in the bottom of the 9^th with Smith at the plate, but he completes an 0-5 day with a weak grounder to second.

Manny 'Sukey' Martinez pitched a perfect 9^th for his NL leading 37^th save. The 26yo lefty is turning into the best closer in the league. Coming off winning Pitcher of the Month 1-0 12sv 0.84era in 10.2ip , its amazing to realized he was picked out of the fields in his native Puerto Rico just two years ago and went directly to the majors after playing in the independent league in PR.



[8.17.27] Mets 5, Diamondbacks 3 – Williamson (10-5) 8ip 5h 3er 3bb 8k 1hr becomes the fourth Mets starter with 10 wins and Smith (39) makes up for yesterday by driving in four, including a tie-breaking bases-loaded double in the sixth. Monje (11) got the save.



[8.18.27] Diamondbacks 3, Mets 1 – Valdes (8-7) suffers the loss as the offense fails again. The Diamondbacks are the second best pitching team in the NL and their bullpen has a 2.70era on the season, so its not like they lost to a crappy team.
The Mets are (78-51) 10 up on the Phillies and 11 on the Braves. Up next are the Pirates (72-57) on the road, the Pirates are the 4^th best team in the NL.



[8.19.27] Mets 2, Pirates 1 – Another team the Mets could play in the post season, this time they get enough offense to win. Fulton and three relievers allow six hits, and the Mets only manage nine, but an 8^th inning homer by Finley (27) breaks the 1-1 tie. Sheppard (4-2) gets the win in relief and Monje (12) strikes out two for the save. The Pirates steal 8 of 9 bases.



[8.20.27] Pirates 7, Mets 4 – The Mets lose more than the game, they also lose Gardner (14-10) for the remainder of the season. He injured himself trying to field a ground ball, he attempted to scoop it with his glove towards first, but ended up tumbling awkwardly and he injured his back. Scalfaro (36) had two hits including his third triple of the season.
Rushton comes off the DL and takes Gardner's spot on the roster. Fisher moves into the rotation.

This hurts. I lose my top pitcher on the season. The depth in Triple A isn't as deep as it had once been, as now I'm going to have to throw someone in the postseason I wasn't planning on.



[8.21.27] Mets 12, Pirates 9 – The first six Mets reach base and they end up scoring five times, with just one hit, a 2-run single by Scalfaro, they get five walks and one hbp. The Pirates get four back in the bottom of the first in a more conventional fashion, three singles and two doubles. Caraballo extends the lead back to 7-5 in the second with a two run double. The Mets third baseman adds three more rbis in the 8^th with his 20^th home run of the season. Scalfaro gets four hits. Monje (3-3) 4ip 2h 1er 6k gets the win and Rushton (30) gets the save with a perfect 9^th his first appearance back from the DL.
The Mets (80-52) are 9 games up on the Phillies and 12 on the Braves. They are the first team to 80 wins. Next up the Monterrey Suns (64-68) second place in the NL South one game behind the Astros, they are 4 out in the wild card.



[8.22.27] Mets 6, Suns 2 – Marquez (11-4) 9ip 5h 2r 1er 11k steps up and takes the mantle of number 1 starter well. Smith (40,41) hits a pair of solo shots and Caraballo (21) hits a 2-run shot.



[8.23.27] Mets 6, Suns 4 – Valdes (9-7) 8ip 7h 4er 4bb 4k gets the win, but Smith is ejected in the first inning after charging Diego Franco on the mound. Short (13) hit a 2-run shot into the second deck in right field and watched it a little longer than he should have and Smith paid the price with a 90-mile hour fast ball at his head.
As the best player on the team, he used to being thrown at as retaliation and its normally an 81mph fastball in the ass, never at the head. He snapped and charged the mound. Caraballo (22) hit a solo shot later in the game, but New Ebbets got eerily quiet for the rest of the game. Everyone wondering if a suspension would end the consecutive game streak, if it did it would be the 3^rd longest in history at 1611 games. Rushton (31) got the save. With the suspension Franco is now going to have a hard time getting to 350k.
I tried looking into to see if the suspension would end the consecutive game streak, going so far as to tweet the question to Tim Kirkjian to see if it would. I got no response.
I think a suspension would end a streak, so I am going to say the streak ends at 1611 games. It is the third longest streak in history, behind only Ripken and Gerhig. It had been the longest streak in the NL for over two seasons when he passed Steve Garvey back in early 2025.
This is the second of the All-Time streaks that guys in the sim have made a run at. Years ago, there was a player who had a consecutive game streak of 49.

Detriot Tigers 43yo ss Hanley Ramirez drives in career rbi 1500. The 2006 ROY and 5-time All Star is 13^th all time in hits with 3260, 21^st in runs with 1756 and fifth in doubles with 693 behind four guys with names like Speaker, Rose, Musial and Cobb. Unless he comes back for a 24^th season, he will fall short of two milestones. 700 doubles and 400 home runs.
A complier kind of player, a 23-year vet, he should be a lock for the Hall of Fame.

Finley (28) puts the Mets up 6-5 in the 7^th with a solo shot. Short and Caraballo each have a pair of doubles. Monje (4-3) 3.1ip 3h 2bb 5k gets the win, Rushton (32) the save.
The Mets (83-52) are 12 games up on the Phillies and 13 on the Braves, who are the last two wild card teams. The magic number is 16. The Mets head to Sao Paulo for the second time this season to face the Samba (57-78), who are in last in the NL South.
The Mets demote Okazaki to bring Alvarez off the DL.



[8.26.27] Samba 6, Mets 5 – Williamson (10-6) 4.1ip 9h 6er 3bb 4k 2hr can't hold the 2-0 or 3-1 leads the Mets give him and he's losing 6-3 when he leaves in the 5^th. The Mets get three hits from Scalfaro and Caraballo (who also drives in three) and Finley drives in his 100^th run of the season. Wyatt (1) hits his first and also triples in the loss.


LA Dodgers first baseman 28yo Carter Collette hit his 300^th career home run. The former 8^th overall pick in 2017 by the Rockies and 2020 Rookie of the Year, he was traded to the Dodgers in late 2026. The Rockies knew they wouldn't be able to resign him for market value, so they needed to get something for him. The Dodgers immediately sign him to 4-year/$96 million deal.

[8.27.27] Samba 5, Mets 2 – The Mets bats are shut down by Candido Botequim (14-13), the 34yo Brazilian pitcher had the home crowd squarely in his corner. He allows just six hits in seven innings, striking out nine and walking no one. Marquez (11-5) can't make it out of the fourth and Finley gets the Mets only extra base hit.



[8.28.27] Samba 6, Mets 2 – The loss of Smith is slowly catching up with the Mets as they score just nine runs in three games as they were swept by the lowly Samba. Valdez (9-8) .2ip 5er 2bb 1k can't make it out of the first and despite the pen allowing only four runners over the final 8.1ip the Mets can't climb out of the 6-0 hole. Scalfaro (37) provides the only offense with a third inning 2-run home run.
The Mets (83-55) are 10 games up on the Phillies and 13 on the Braves who are still holding onto the 3^rd & 4^th wild card spots. The Mets return home to face the NL worst London Kings (57-81).


The Mets trade long time minor leaguer Todd Strelioff to the Mexico Aztecs for minor league pitcher Antonio Castro.
Castro is a 21yo righty from Costa Rico. Drafted in the 53^rd round in 2025 by the Aztecs, he shown that he's got good movement and better than average control and stuff, low to mid 90s



[8.29.27] Mets 6, Kings 0 – Fulton (13-4) 5ip 2h 4k pitches great, but after coming back out after the 55-minute rain delay in the fourth, he stiffens in the 5^th and doesn't return in the 6^th. Sheppard and Monje each strike out three in two innings of work and Gonzalez (10) also triples and drives in two. Pruitt has three hits and Short gets two more doubles.



[8.30.27] Mets 3, Kings 2 (10 innings) – Fisher pitches great and leaves after Finley (30) hits a 2-run pinch hit home run in the 8^th to give the Mets a 2-1 lead. Rushton blows his 5^th save by allowing back-to-back doubles to open the 9^th.
In the 10^th Scalfaro hits his third straight double with one out, after a walk and ground out, the Mets have 2^nd & 3^rd with two outs and Hayes singles over the third baseman's head into left field to walk off. Monje (5-3) pitched a scoreless 10^th for the win.



[8.31.27] Kings 4, Mets 3 – Williamson (10-7) allows four runs over five innings and the Mets leave 12 on base. Short (14) has three hits and Pruitt, Scalfaro and Finley all get two hits.
The Mets (85-56) are 10 games up on the Phillies and 14 on the Braves, the Braves have slid into a tie for the final wild card spot with the Cubs. The Mets magic number is 12.

Around the league

The NL South heads into the final month of season with three teams tied at 68-73 for the division lead, the Houston Astros, Monterrey Suns and Venezuela Lobos. The only chance any of the teams have to get into the playoffs is to win the division. They are only four games back in the wild card race, but there are also four teams they would need to jump to win the wild card
.
The chase for 400 in the AL has fallen off. Eida fell to 376 after hitting only 304 in August. Summers, who was at 400 as late as a week ago, is down to 392.
Leighton stands at 94 steals and barring a tragedy, should become the first person in 40 years with 100 steals in a season. He's on pace for 108, but if he gets to 111 it would be 3^rd highest total ever.
Franco will not get to 350k and will barely get over 300 due to the suspension for hitting Smith


The Mets play 9 full series in the month and only lose one (they are swept by the Samba). Scalfaro 382/452/673 has a great month, but is overshadowed by Finley 429/482/780 and had the most home runs 9 and rbis 34 for the month.

2027 AUGUST 1st - AUGUST 15th

[8.1.27] Mets 6, Astros 2 – Marquez (9-2) 7ip 4h 1er 1bb 4k 1hr gets the win and hits his fourth double of the year.  Finley (21) drives in 5 and goes back-to-back with Caraballo (16) in the 7^th. Smith has three more hits and is now a single percentage point behind the batting leader. He is second in average, he leads in homers and RBIs as he tries to win a third Triple Crown.

Ralph Smith became the 15th man in major league history to win the Triple Crown in 2020 when he hit 356/434/659 50hr 133rbi. He was the first player since Carl Yastrzemski in 53 years to win the Triple Crown and first in 83 years to win it in the NL. Ducky Medwick was the last NL player to win it in 1937.
Three years later he became only the third man to win it twice. Some guys named Rogers Hornsby and Ted Williams also won it twice (never heard of 'em). when he went 347/445/651 50hr 128rbi in 2023.
He was the first Chicago Cubs player ever to win the Triple Crown.



[8.2.27] Astros 12, Mets 2 – Nothing goes right for Valdes (6-6) 4.2ip 9h 7er 3bb 4k 1hr, he and the bullpen absorb a drubbing. Short (12) drives in both with his home run, the only mar against Luis Torrez (7-8). He struck out 10 Mets, including Scalfaro twice. The Mets catcher has now gone 1-19 dipping his avg 315.
The Mets (68-46) are 9 games up on the Braves and 10 on the Phillies. They have the best record in the NL and are tied with the Puerto Rico Eagle for best overall.


San Francisco Giants rookie Rich Jenkinson had the best debut game ever. Technically, this was his second game, but he appeared the night before as a defensive replacement for an inning and did not get an at bat. He went 5 2 5 6 with two home runs and six driven in.


In the AL two men are hitting over 390. Vancouver A's 34yo catcher Kenzo Eida has turned hitting into a science, blessed with a great eye and quick hands. He's got 84 walks to 14 ks this year and he's hitting 391/496/614 on the season.
The other is Ed Summers, the Dominican Republic Stars 26yo first baseman. He's a swing-at-anything-kind of guy, but he doesn't miss much, only 49 k in 451ab and 39 walks. He's 399/448/621 and was above 400 as recently as the 29^th of July.
How hard is it to hit 400? Summers is on a 13-game hitting streak and his average has gone down! From 400 to 399. Both players are having stellar seasons, far beyond anything they've done. Summers is in just his second season and only hit 315 last year. Eida, has never hit above 338 in 12 seasons in the pros and never finished higher than 5^th in a batting race.


Boston Red Sox second baseman Augusto Cabral pulled off the amazing feat of scoring his 1000^th run and driving in his 1000^th RBI on the same pitch. He picked up the run and RBI on his 21^st home run of the season. A solo shot in the third.

I have no proof of this fact, but I am going to guess that this is a Major League first. That any player collected his 1000th run and rbi on the same home run. This would surely be an answer to a baseball trivia question that I would know, that's why I don't think this has ever happened.



[8.3.27] Mets 11, Brewers 9 (11 innings) – In a meeting of the two best NL teams (Mets 68-46, Brewers 66-48) all bets were off. There are four lead changes, two ties and watch the Brewers break a team record.
The Brewers starter was Alfredo Reyes and Fulton starts for the Mets. Reyes retires the Mets in order in the first and then Fulton walks the first two hitters, strikes out the next two and then walks the bases loaded. He gets out of it on an easy come backer.
Fulton allows a solo shot in the second and walks two more batters, but gets a 1-6-3 dp to escape the inning.
In the 4^th  Smith (36) and Scalfaro (31) go back-to-back to put the Mets up 2-1. In the bottom of the inning the Brewers leave two more men in scoring position, one via the walk. They tie it in the 5^th when ex-Met Jeff Hansen doubles home a run and go ahead when the next batter triples.
In the 6^th Finley (22) hits a 3-run shot to put the Mets back up 5-4 and it chases Reyes from the game. Fulton doesn't make it out of the 6^th either and is yanked after allowing a game tying solo home run. Sheppard comes in and lets up a double and a walk, which brings Hansen to the plate. He smokes a drive into the right field gap that Gonzalez is able to chase down on what would normally be the center fielders' ball, but because Sheppard (who tops out at 99) was facing the 41-year old lefty Hansen, the Mets were shaded to left.
In the 8^th Scalfaro (32) and Finley (23) go back-to-back and put the Mets up 8-5. Monje comes in to close it in the 9^th and walks two guys with two outs, then allows a single, driving in a run. After a double plates another run, Benes summons Spence to pitch.  The rookie throws a 58-foot curveball that skips past Scalfaro, allowing the tying run to score. He walks the next two hitters (the Brewers 11^th and 12^th walks of the game) before striking out the ninth Brewer to bat in the inning. They left the bases loaded again.
Okazaki starts the 10^th and allows a hit and two walks before getting an easy grounder to short to end the inning.
With two outs in the 11th Smith doubles and Scalfaro walks, for the third time in the game. Finley singles home Smith who turned on the jets (up from slothlike to segway) and beats the throw home, allowing the runners to move up a base. That sends rookie reliever Okazaki to the plate -Benes had used the entire bench- for his first career at bat. On a 2-1 fast ball, he cues it off the end of the bat and it bounces over the bag at third allowing both runners to score.
In the bottom of the inning the Brewers get their 15^th walk of the game and a pair of singles, a run-scoring one by Hansen to cut the lead to 11-9. A sac puts runners at second and third with two outs, but Gonzalez chases a ball drifting away from him into foul ground to end the game.
Some crazy stats in the game. The Brewers leave 20 men on base and get 15 walks.

The three of them scored all 11 runs, were responsible for 9 driven in and received four walks, they left a combined 1 man on base and reached base in 12 of 18 at bats. The other two rbis came on reliever Okazaki first major league hit.



[8.4.27] Mets 5, Brewers 3 – Williamson (8-5) 8ip 7h 3er 3bb 7k pitches well and saves his spot in the rotation. After his last start Benes floated the idea that there may be a change and there was talk that Fisher was going to make his way back from exile in the pen. Monje (8) gets the save. The Mets go back-to-back again, this time Finley (24) and Caraballo (17) in the fourth. They are the first team to 70 wins.



[8.5.27] Brewers 8, Mets 3 – The Jeff Hansen Show takes over Miller Park, he hits two home runs including a first inning grand slam, walks twice, scores three times and even steals a base. Gardner (12-8) 1ip 3h 4er 1bb 2k 1hr gives way to Fisher who gives the Mets four innings, but allows a pair of runs. Gonzalez (8) homers in the loss.
The Mets are 70-47 and 10 games in front of the Braves and Phillies in the NL East, who are tied for the final wild card spot.


Angels 4, Red Sox 1 – Former Mets starter Shawn MacGilledon (12-9) has a perfect game for 8.1 innings before Angel Ortiz -hitting 190 on the season- lines a solid single into left field. MacGilledon would end up facing one batter over the minimum, while striking out 9 in his complete game 1-hitter.


San Diego Padres 25yo third baseman Jason Nicholes hits three home runs and drives in 8. He hits a pair of 3-run homers and a 2-run shot.



[8.6.27] Dodgers 5, Mets 4 – Marquez (9-3) 8ip 9h 5er 2bb 7k 2hr allows a 3-run home run in the 8th to give the Dodgers a 5-1 lead. Scalfaro (33) hits a 3-run shot in the bottom of the inning cutting the lead to 5-4, but the Mets go meekly against Jose 'Spunk' Cadiz in the 9^th. The Dodgers have what looks like an emerging dominant closer in Cadiz.



[8.7.27] Mets 5, Dodgers 1 – Valdez (7-6) 9ip 6h 1er 1bb 3k gives the bullpen a rest and Finley (25) drives in three. The Mets left fielder has 6 multi-hit games over his last 7 starts (15-23). Pruitt (13) hit his second lead off homer of the season, joining HOFer Rickey Henderson as the only players over 40 with multiple lead off home runs.

Again, not sure if that's true. There may be more players that have done that, and I'm not even sure Rickey Henderson actually did this, but if I had to bet on it, I think Rickey did this. And I bet he talked about himself in the first person while doing it.



[8.8.27] Mets 5, Dodgers 4 (13 innings) – 19 hits in the game and just 2 for extra bases (each team had a double) and the winning run scored on a sac fly, by Scalfaro. Fulton allowed 3 unearned runs in 7 innings and Dyer (2-0), fresh off the DL, got the win with 2 innings of 1 hit ball.
The Mets are (72-48) and have a 10 game lead on the Phillies and 11 on the Braves. Best record in NL by 4 games, and in MLB by 1 game.


Gotham Yankees 31yo first baseman Andy Fritz hits his 300^th career home run. The 3-time All Star (2021,24,26) has a WS ring (2021 Anaheim) and 8 Player of the Week awards. He's lead the AL in HR once and finished in the top 6 five other times.



[8.9.27] Mets 7, Reds 4 – Williamson (9-5) 6ip 8h 4er 2bb 6k 2hr pitches well enough to win and Scalfaro (34) and drives in five. He is the second NL player over 100 on the season, behind the guy who bats in front of him in the order, Smith. Finley has two more hits, Monje (9) gets the save and three Mets steal bases, Dickerson (13), Palacios (14) and Hayes (17).


Bailey Finley wins Player of the Week 13-22 5hr 14rbi 591/591/1272. It is the first Player of the Week selection in his career.


Detriot Tigers 33yo left fielder Evan Dayett drove in his 1000^th career run. The 6-time All Star (2019,20,23-26), has 7 career 100 rbi seasons and a career average of 309. Earlier in the season he hit his 300^th career home run on July 12^th.



[8.10.27] Reds 6, Mets 4 – Gardner (12-9) allows 7 hits in four innings and the Mets never get out of the 4-1 hole they dig for themselves after three innings. Finley gets two more hits.



[8.11.27] Mets 11, Reds 1 – Marquez (10-3) 7ip 5h 1er 9k 1hr picks up win number 10. The Mets get 11 runs on 11 hits and 12 walks, they leave 11 on base. Smith (37,38) drives in four and walks three times and Gonzalez (9) drives in four and probably saved his job for the season.
During the game, Dickerson went down and will be out for 2 weeks and speculation was the Mets might bring up Burton Holsinger, a right fielder with an above average bat 300/364/444 at Triple A at the age of 22. But the Mets decided to go with an actual center fielder for defensive purposes, so they brought up Nicolas Thul, the only Swiss born player has spent the parts of 6 seasons in Triple A. He fared quite well during his last cup of coffee in 2026. 2-3 3b 4bi.

I also wanted to keep him in the minors so I didn't start his free agency clock. I have every intention of making room for him to start in the outfield next season, wanted to get an extra year out of him, ie. Kris Bryant.
The Mets (74-49) are 9 games ahead of the Phillies and 11 of the Braves.



[8.13.27] Mets 12, Padres 4 – Valdes (8-6) gets the win as the offense goes wild again. Scalfaro (35) and Finley each have three hits, Caraballo (19) hits a grand slam in the 7^th and even Thul chips with with two hits.


Puerto Rico Eagle Jose Castro strikes out 18 Chicago White Sox. The 30yo righty has nine straight 200 strikeout seasons, but this is the first time he's struck out over 15 guys in a game. The 3-time All Star has won two WS (2019,20 with Braves) and a Walter Johnson award in 2021 when he went 20-8 2.47era 215ip 212k 1.00whip.
He is 5 wins away from 150 before his 30^th birthday and hasn't missed a start in 9 seasons.



[8.14.27] Mets 7, Padres 4 – This time its Finley (26) with the grand slam to propel the offense. After Fulton (12-4) allows a first inning home run to put the Mets in a 2-0 hole, Pruitt leads off with a single. Short doubles and then Smith and Scalfaro walk, bringing home a run. Finley drives it off the batters eye in center to put the Mets up 5-2. Fulton settles down and Monje (10) gets the save.



[8.15.27] Mets 9, Padres 4 – Gardner (13-9) is the beneficiary this time as the offense again strikes early. A run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1 and then they send 11 men to the plate in the bottom of the third, scoring 6 times on five hits, three walks, a balk and a wild pitch.
The Mets (77-49) have a 10 game lead on the Phillies and 12 on the Braves. They are the NL's best team by 4 game over the Diamondbacks and one game over the PR Eagle for best in baseball.


Some other milestones to mention that are obtainable this year.
Diego Franco, 37yo Monterrey Suns pitcher has 281k through 27 starts and should get 8 more, putting him up around 350. It would be his third 300k season in the past four seasons.


Kevin 'Suppers Ready' Leighton, the 27yo Venezuela Lobos center fielder has 86 stolen bases so far and is on pace for 110. He would be the first player in 40 years to steal 100. Vince Coleman did it last for the St Louis Cardinals in 1987 when he stole 109.
I will explain this nickname. I gave it to him after I noticed that his hometown is Magog, Quebec. I didn't know there was a Magog Quebec, the only Magog I knew was in the Genesis song "Suppers Ready".
It sounded cool, that's why I kept it. I don't really have a good story for the nickname yet, but it's easily tieable to his prowess as a speedster. If you have an idea, let me know.

[7.18.27] – Mets 3, Cubs 1 – Fulton (11-4) only allows two hits in 6.2 innings, but walks 8 and strikes out 9 and the Cubs strand 7 runners in the first four innings. Scalfaro drives in two with a double and a sac fly and Rushton (28) gets the save with 2k in the 9^th .



[7.19.27] – Mets 5, Cubs 0 – Valdes (4-5) in his second game back from the DL throws a complete game shutout, allowing four hits, four walks and strikes out five. Scalfaro (27) hits a 3-run shot in the 8^th and has four total RBIs. Short (11) has three hits and scores three times.



[7.20.27] – Mets 9, Cubs 5 – The Mets complete the sweep and Gardner loses a chance at 11 wins by allowing the Cubs to put five on the board in the top of the 7^th and take a 5-4 lead. The Mets had built that lead by hitting solo home runs in the 3^rd 4^th and 5^th innings from Smith (31), Finley (18) & Pruitt (9), in that order.
In the bottom of the 7^th the Mets hit two more solo home runs, Caraballo (15) and Gonzalez (7), who is still trying to get back to the Mendoza line. He's been across it four times this season, each time sliding back under. The Mets add three more in the bottom of the 8^th and LeBlanc (6-1) scoops up another cheap win by throwing four pitches. Monje (4) gets a two inning save, striking out three.
The Mets (60-42) have won 10 of 11 and extend their lead in the NL East to six games over the Braves (who are 2-10 in last 12 and just lost their number two starter for 13 months) and 7 over the Phillies (who are 3-12 in their last 15).



[7.21.27] – Mets 9, Giants 4 – Williamson (7-4) picks up win 205 for his career and Benes flips Pruitt and Short in the lineup. Yes, the Mets now have a 42-year old short stop leading off who has stolen a total of three bases in five years.
Smith (32) gets four hits, scores three times and drives in two with his homer. Finley (19) also homers and drives in a pair. Every Mets starter had a hit and six different guys had RBIs. The winning streak reaches five games.

Mike 'Egyptian' Mahoney announces his retirement from baseball at the age of 25. The 2-time All Star and 2025 Walter Johnson winner suffered what he thought was just a rotator cuff injury on the second day of spring training this season.
After successful surgery in March he was just beginning his rehab assignment when he realized there was still pain. More tests revealed a rare degenerate muscle disease and he will no longer be able to pitch.
The youngster looked like he was going to be the next big pitching star in the NL. He had excellent stuff, movement and great control. [Stuff, Movement and Control are the three major stats for all pitchers on a scale of 1-100. When he suffered his injury Mahoney was 100/86/98.]
He was first drafted in the second round by the Pirates in 2019 in June and then in the 9^th round later during the 2019 Expansion Draft by the Venezuela Lobos.

[7.22.27] – Giants 4, Mets 3 (18 innings) – The winning streak comes to an end in the bottom of the 18^th inning after one of the most remarkable relief pitching performances ever.
Marquez 8ip 7h 3er 3bb 8k 1hr left on the losing side only to see the Mets tie it in the top of the 9^th on a long sac fly from Gonzalez.
In extras, the Mets had their chances, first and third with one out and Scalfaro at bat in the 10^th, bases-loaded and two outs for Wyatt in the 13^th and single runners in three other innings, they would strand 17 in the game.
The Giants wished for runners in extras, after a single to open the 11^th, the Giants wouldn't get another runner until the 17^th inning. Monje 7.2ip 2h 8k was unreal. After allowing a single to open the 11^th, he struck out the next batter, then induced an inning ending double play. He set down the next 17 Giants in order. The hit in the 18^th was from the guy who grounded into the double play, he had gone through the line up twice. He then got the first out of the 18^th and left to a standing ovation from the Giants crowd, well the ones remaining. Six pitches later the Giants gave another ovation, this time to Soshu 'Mosquito' Fujii as he circled the bases after a home run off Spence (3-1) who really shit the bed on this one. Fujii, a third baseman, was the number 1 prospect of this season and would be odds on favorite to win Rookie of the Year if the Giants hadn't given him 70 abs the season before. It's his 22hr of the season.
Smith goes 0-7 in a game for the first time in his career, Caraballo has four hits and Scalfaro (28) homered way back in the second.


Atlanta Braves 2b Jack West scores his 1000^th run. The 32yo won the MVP in 2021, has made three All-Star trips, won a GG and two WS rings (2019,20) all in Atlanta. He was drafted as the 23^rd pick in the 2013 draft. Oft injured, he hasn't played more than 145 games in a season since 2021. Those injuries might keep him from 3000 hits. The 331 lifetime hitter only has 1760 hits in his first 11 seasons, but has missed almost 3 full seasons worth of games due to injuries. He has won two batting titles, 365 in 2018 and 358 in 2021, his MVP season.
Two weeks from now he tears a back muscle and won't be ready until the start of next season, missing the preseason.



[7.23.27] – Mets 8, Giants 2 – Valdes (5-5) goes 6.2 for the win and also drives in a pair with a double in the fourth. Smith (33) and Scalfaro (29) go back-to-back in the first and the Mets are up 3-0 before the Giants bat. Short gets five hits and scores three times.
The Mets (62-43) and have a 7 game lead on the Braves and 8 on the Phillies. Over the past 15 games the Mets have gone 12-3, while the Braves have gone 3-12 and the Phillies 4-11.



[7.24.27] – Phillies 10, Mets 5 – The fourth  inning rain delay disrupted Fulton and he got wild when he returned in the fifth, an inning he failed to get through, although he didn't allow a run. The Mets add three in the bottom of the 6^th to go up 4-0. After LeBlanc threw 1.2 hitless innings, Sheppard (2-2) and fails to get any of the five hitter he faces out. Alvarez faces two batters and both of them score on a home run. Fisher comes in and loads the bases with a walk, then walks home a run. He is able to get the final two outs, but the Phillies now lead 8-4.



[7.25.27] – Mets 10, Phillies 5 – Gardner (11-7) doesn't pitch great, but the offense picks it up and scores 10 in the first four innings. Four each in the first and fourth and two in the third. Smith (34) has three hits and scores three times, Finley (20) drives home four. Every starter gets a hit and seven of them score.



[7.26.27] – Phillies 5, Mets 4 – Williamson (7-5) lets a 4-0 lead slip away by letting Mark Schmidt hit a bases clearing double to put the Phillies up 5-4. Some wonder why Benes would have let him pitch to Schmidt in the first place. Pruitt (10) led off the game with a home run.
The Mets (64-45) still lead the Braves by 6 games and Phillies by 7.


The Pittsburgh Pirates defeat the Chicago Cubs 21-8. They put up 10 before Cubs get a chance to bat and hit three first inning home runs. Pirates star Edgar 'Preacher' Lopez hits a pair of 3-run home runs to drive in six.



[7.27.27] – Mets 3, Lobos 2 (10 innings) – Pinch hitter Mario Palacios creates the winning run himself. He walks to open the 10^th, advances to second on sac fly to shallow left, steals third and then scores on a single through a drawn in infield. Rushton (1-5) got the win by pitching the 9^th and 10^th. With a ground out in the first Smith became the first person in either league to 100 RBI on the season, he also leads the NL in home runs (34) and is 4^th in the batting chase at 351, 14 points behind the leader.


Pittsburgh Pirates 1b Antonio Feliciano drives in his 1000^th run. The 2019 AL ROY he was traded from Cleveland to Pittsburgh in 2021 and has had the misfortune of being in the NL since that time. First base is the deepest position in the NL, starting with NY Mets Ralph Smith (the best player in the game), and he hasn't made the All Star team once since moving to the NL, but was an All-Star twice in his two full seasons in the AL.

[7.28.27] – Mets 9, Lobos 6 – Valdes (6-5) pitches well enough for the win and the Mets offense again strikes early. Up 8-2 after four innings, Dickerson (2) has three hits and Scalfaro (30) drives in three.
The Mets get a scare in the bottom of the ninth when Rushton is forced to leave the game with arm issues. Monje (5) comes in for the save and will be the closer while Rushton is on the shelf. Early word says its dead arm syndrome and he'll be out about 3 weeks.



[7.29.27] – Mets 5, Lobos 4 – Fulton pitches 7 good innings, but Sheppard (3-2) blows the save. He is rewarded with the win when Pruitt (11,12) hits his second home run of the day, a solo shot in the 9^th inning. Monje (6) strikes out two for the save.
The Mets (66-45) have an 8 game lead on the Braves and 9 on the Phillies, they have the best NL record by 2 games over the Brewers and one game over the AL leader, the Puerto Rico Eagle.



[7.30.27] – The Mets trade 26 year old right fielder Yukinaga Yamada (AAA) who had two cups of coffee with the Mets in 2024 & 2025 to the Houston Astros. An outstanding bunter, baserunner and an above average right fielder with very good speed. And a 19yo catching prospect Chan-seok Kim (A), a brilliant defensive catcher, but there are concerns about his bat at the major league level.
In return, the Mets get sp Choong-suk Ham (AAA), at 25 years old he's 13-4 2.60era 131.2ip in Round Rock AAA this season.



[7.31.27] Mets 3, Astros 2 – Gardner (12-7) goes 8 innings for the win and Monje (7) gets the save. Smith (35) has three hits including a home run. Former Mets second baseman Romeu Foreiro (21) got a standing ovation when he circled the bases on his home run. The 32yo Brazilian was the starter on the 2022 WS team and is still loved in NY.
He is having a career season and is all ready at career high in homers, 21, and his 75 RBIs ties his career high back in 2023 in NY and there's still 2 months in the season. He also made his first All-Star team this year.

As the month came to a close, no team was hotter than the Mets, 17-4 in the last 21. They began the month tied with the Braves in first and the Phillies a game back. They end the month 8 in front of the Braves and 10 in front of the Phillies, who seem to be fading.

2027 JULY 1st - JULY 16th

[7.1.27] – Montes Scalfaro wins Batter of the Month with 437/500/874 11hr 29rbi 20r in just 22 games. It is his 5^th Batter of the Month and the first time since April 2026.



[7.1.27] – Mets 7, Samba 6 – Neither starter makes it past the fourth inning and the Mets blow a 6-1 lead in the third inning and the Samba tie the game in the top of the 6^th. A Caraballo singles home the go ahead run in the bottom of the inning to put the Mets back up.
LeBlanc (5-1) pitches 2 innings for the win and Rushton (24) gets the save and Mets pull into first place by themselves for the first time this season.



[7.2.27] – Samba 8, Mets 2 – Fulton (9-3) also fails at his first chance at 10 wins. Jared 'Tacky Tom' Wells pitches a complete game and hold the Mets to just 2 runs.
The Braves pulled back into a tie with the Mets, the Phillies a game back.

Here is an example of the sim giving a guy an inappropriate nickname. His name is Jared, but his nickname is 'Tacky Tom'. I like it, so he'll keep it.

There was a real player with that nickname, who played for some really bad teams 130 years ago, 'Tacky Tom' Parrott. Including the ninth place 1893 Chicago Colts (soon to become the Chicago Orphans [1898-1902], then the Cubs in 1903.)

He wasn't bad even though you may think he was just looking at his numbers, 39-48 5.33era 795ip 1.713whip as a pitcher and 303/331/442 15hr 163rbi in 1048pa over four years. His lifetime ERA+ is 96 [average is 100], as a batter his OPS+ is 98 [average is 100]. 

The ERA+ and OPS+ stats are one of the ways that baseball is able to compare eras across its history. The + signifies his average against the leagues' average. This is why baseball history destroys the history of every other sport combined.


[7.3.27] – Samba 4, Mets 0 – Candido Botequim (9-8) pitches a gem 9ip 3h 2bb 9k. Valdes (2-4) takes the loss.



[7.5.27] – Kings 7, Mets 6 – Caraballo (12) completed a 4-run first inning with a three run shot, but then the Mets fall behind 6-4 after the sixth. The Mets tie it in the 8^th with a Finley single to center that drove home the runs when center fielder boots it.
In the bottom of the 9^th Rushton (0-4) allows a walk off home run to Ismael Lopez (11).



[7.6.27] – Kings 4, Mets 3 – Williamson 8ip 11h 3er 3bb 6k 1hr is not around for the decision as Rushton (0-5) blows it again. This time he walks the lead off hitter, then makes an ill advised attempt at a ground ball allowing both runners to reach base. An intentional walk loaded the bases, but a single ended the game.



[7.7.27] – Kings 7, Mets 2 – The Kings complete the sweep by knocking starter Fulton from the game in the third when it was 7-0.
The Mets (50-40) and the Phillies fall two behind the Braves.



[7.8.27] – Nationals 6, Mets 2 – Nats starter Leonard Stark (10-4) throws a complete game allowing two solo home runs, Smith (28) and Dickerson (1). The losing streak reaches six games.



[7.9.27] – Mets 9, Nationals 3 – The Mets are out hit 9 to 6, but receive 8 walks. Scalfaro (24) and Short (10) each hit 3-run home runs. Marquez (7-2) 8.1ip 9h 3er 1bb 15k 2hr strikes out a career high 15 batters and turns it over to Sheppard to get the final two outs.


The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Cleveland Indians 23-6. They score all their runs over 5 innings, never scoring less than 3. Manny Moran, 32-yo Cuban 2b, drives in six. A 3-run home run (21) in the third to get things started and a bases-clearing double in the 6^th to make it 18-5.



[7.10.27] – Mets 3, Nationals 2 – Gardner (10-6) becomes the first Met with 10 wins as he throws 3-hit ball for 8 innings, striking out 9. Rushton (25) picks up the save.
The Mets (52-41) remain a game behind the Braves and 1 in front of the Phillies. They have a 4 game lead in the wild card as they head to Atlanta to battle the Braves.


Qian-gui 'Jedi' Shuang, the Cleveland Indian superstar third baseman hit his 400^th home run today. At the age of 32, he's got some time to put up bigger numbers. His career split is 321/376/554 and has led the AL in rbis the past three seasons, last year driving in a career high 158.

Sometimes the sim gives guys nicknames, other times I give the guy a nickname. In this case, I gave him the 'Jedi' nickname. It fits, his first name looks like Qui-Gon Jinn and the guys is a master with the bat.
I don't give many nicknames out, but when I do its to stars and future HOFers, like this guy.
The sim doesn't make up new nicknames, they recycle old ones. [See: Jared/Tacky Tom above]



[7.11.27] – Mets 12, Braves 9 (11 innings) – Williamson put the Mets in an 4-0 hole in the first. In the sixth the Mets score four times to go up 7-5, led by two doubles, one from Caraballo and one from Smith who had homered in the fourth. The Mets extend the lead in the 8^th to 9-6 on a single and fielders choice.
Spence comes in to start the 9^th and allows a single and is lifted for Sheppard who walks the first man he faces. On the first pitch to Ryan Hill (22) he deposits it in the seats to tie the game at 9. In the 11^th the Mets go back-to-back, Pruitt (8) and Smith (29,30) with his second. Fisher (5-8) gets the win in relief.
The Mets climb back into a tie with the Braves.



[7.12.27] – Mets 6, Braves 3 – Fulton (10-4) 8ip 3h 3er 6bb 7k, gets his 10^th win of the season. The Mets break the tie in the 6^th by scoring on a passed ball, ground out and single to up the lead to 5-2. Monje (3) strikes out a pair for the save.
The Mets take a one game lead on the Braves, three on the Phillies.


The Arizona Diamondbacks defeat the Washington Nationals 5-1 in 18 innings. Four Arizona pitchers allow just 8 hits over the 18 innings. Reliever Vicente Franco, 32-yo Chilean, who throws six innings of hitless relief, striking out 9 and facing the minimum. The one base runner he did allow (a walk) was erased on a double play.


The Milwaukee Brewers defeat the San Francisco Giants 8-7 in 17 innings. The Giants tie the game at five in the top of the 9^th and then each team scores a run in the 13^th. The Giants score one in the top of the 17^th to go up 7-6, but Curt Cook, 40-yo reliever is starting his 8^th inning of relief and walks the first batter on four pitches. Brewers ss Will Sawyer then hits a walk off home run.
The win goes to former Mets closer Gerardo Lopez, the Mets franchise saves leader (390), he's only picked up 36 saves since leaving NY 4 ½ seasons ago. 8 time All Star and Walter Johnson Winner (2022). He league the NL in saves four times and won a WS in 2022 with the Mets.

That's right, I did not re-sign my closer (who had just won the Walter Johnson award) to a contract in 2023. I had Rushton waiting in my pen and Lopez wanted too much money.
It looks like he's not quite a HOFer, although an argument could be made because of his first 11 seasons, particularly the 10 he was my closer. 388 saves in 10 seasons as a closer and is the Mets franchise leader in WHIP (1.07) and OAVG (198).
For whatever reason, the Phillies only used him as closer for one season and he's never returned to the closer role. The sim will do that to players, move perfectly good closers to a support role. Had he stayed a closer, he would probably be over 500 saves and a lock for the HOF.



[7.13.27] – Mets 4, Braves 2 – Valdes (3-5) goes 8 innings allowing 5 hits to complete the sweep for the Mets, over the Braves. Scalfaro (25) and Finley (16) each homer. Rushton (26) got the save and the Mets winning streak reaches 5 games.
The Mets (55-41) are two games up on the Braves and four up on the Phillies.


The Vancouver A's defeat the Cleveland Indians 20-5. Its 4-3 A's going into the top of the 6^th and they score 16 runs over the last four innings. Eight starters score at least twice, all of them get hits and four guys drive in three or more runs each.



[7.14.27] – Mets 4, Cardinals 1 – Marquez (8-2) 8ip 2h 1er 1bb 8k 1hr doesn't allow a hit until there are two out in the 7^th and its a home run. Finley (17) and Rea (1) each homer and drive in two for the Mets. Rushton (27) gets the save.



Detroit Tigers 1b/dh Charles Bonner hits three home runs in a game. The first pick of the 2012 draft, the 2-time All Star was the AL ROY in 2016 and has spent his entire career in a Tigers uniform. At 33-yo he has been relegated to platoon work the last two seasons. A free agent after the season, expect him to end up in a different uniform.

His stats in the sim fell sharply after the 2025 season which is why his playing time drops. Again, the sim has no heart and instead of letting a guy slide into mediocrity, it rips the band-aid off all at once and turns him into a bench player overnight.


Houston Astros left fielder Shiki Yoshinaga has 6 hits in a 13-9 victory over the Venezuela Lobos. He hits singles in the 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd & 5^th innings, then homers in the 7^th and 9^th, he scores four times and drives in 6 runs.


[7.15.27] – Cardinals 5, Mets 3 – Gardner (10-7) puts the Mets in a 4-0 hole in the third inning and they can't climb all the way out despite home runs from Scalfaro (26) and Gonzalez (6).


[7.16.27] – Mets 4, Cardinals 3 (15 innings) – Caraballo (14) hits a walk off home run in the bottom of the 15^th ending the longest game of the year for the Mets. After Caraballo drove home Scalfaro in the third to knot the game at three, no one scored until the 15^th.
Williamson and two relievers kept the Cardinals scoreless for the final 13 innings. Monje (2-3) pitched four innings of 1-hit ball while striking out 8 for the win.
The Mets (57-42) extend their lead in the NL East to 4 games over the Braves, 5 over the Phillies.

2027 JUNE 16th - JUNE 30th

[6.16.27] – Padres 6, Mets 5 (12 innings) – The Mets take a 5-2 lead in the 6^th when Williamson drives in a pair with a single. He gives it back in the seventh and doesn't make it out of the inning. It stays tied until the 12^th when Alvarez allows three singles in the bottom of the 12^th as Horace Welch singles to right to win the game.



[6.17.27] – Mets 4, Padres 3 – Scalfaro (18) ties the game in the fourth with a 2-run home run. Short had three hits, including a triple and Fisher (3-7) got the win with 6.1 decent innings, his era was still 6.87. Rushton (19) got the save.



[6.18.27] – Mets 9, Padres 3 – Scalfaro (19,20) & Smith (24,25) each hit two home runs, including back-to-back in the seventh. Smith had 4 rbis and Scalfaro 3 hits and 3rbi and has his average up to 311. Fulton (8-2) 7ip 6h 1er 2bb 9k has won four in a row, the second time this season he's done that.
The Mets 43-32 are a game behind the Phillies and Braves tied atop the NL East at the All-Star break.


The Mets have three All Stars. Scalfaro and Smith each get elected to their 10^th All Star Game and Gardner to his first.

Pittsburgh Pirates starter Ietsuna Kichida becomes the second Pirates starter to strikeouts 15 in a game. He struck out 15 in 8.2



[6.20.27] – National 8, American 0 – Eight NL pitchers combine on a 5-hitter and New York Mets Ralph Smith wins MVP with a double, home run and 3rbi. The game was played in Kingsdown Gardens, the home of the London Kings.

[6.22.27] – Diamondbacks 10, Mets 5 – Short (6) hits a grand slam and drives in all five runs, but Williamson (6-4) gets knocked around and can't escape the 4^th inning when Arizona puts 8 on the board as they get six 2-out hits and a walk, extending the lead from 1-0 to 8-0.
In his first relief appearance of the season Isamu Okazaki needs to come out with tenderness in the elbow. What a puss. Alastair Atteridge is coming off the DL to take his spot in the bullpen.



[6.23.27] – Mets 5, Diamondbacks 4 – Fulton allows a 3-run homer in the first, but Smith (26) and Scalfaro (21) go back-to-back in the third to tie the game at 3, only to see Fulton give it back in the 4^th. The Mets tie the game in the 7^th on a Short double and take the lead in the 8^th when Finley drives home Caraballo to put the Mets up 5-4. Monje pitches a perfect 8^th and Rushton does the same in the 9^th for his 20^th save. LeBlanc (5-1) got the win for his 1 inning of relief.



[6.24.27] – Mets 5, Diamondbacks 4 – Fisher (4-7) 8ip 9h 4er 2bb 7k 2hr is able to avoid a few long balls and Finley (14) drives in three. Rushton (21) gets the save.
The Mets are 45-33 and are a game behind the Braves and tied with the Phillies.



[6.25.27] – Mets 2, Pirates 1 – Gardner (9-6) 8ip 7h 1er 3bb 8k plays with fire all day and needs to have Finley throw out the tying run at home in the 6^th to keep the Mets in the lead. The Pirates strand 11 runners including 2 in the 9^th . Monje (2) allowed two runners to reach base before getting the final three outs for the save, the last out coming when Gomez caught a long drive to center on the track.
The only two Mets runs come on home runs by Gonzalez (4) and Scalfaro (22).



[6.26.27] – Mets 7, Pirates 6 (10 innings) – Williamson leaves men on base in every inning and is chased when he allows his second 3-run homer of the game in the 7^th putting the Pirates up 6-2. The Mets get three back in the bottom of the inning when Short (7) and Caraballo (11) each homer. Gonzalez ties it in the bottom of the 8^th with a single.
Smith opens the 10^th with a double and moves to third on a passed ball, the Pirates intentionally walk Scalfaro and get Finley to pop out. Hayes hits a single right past the pitcher to end the game. Sheppard (2-1) pitches the 9^th and 10^th for the win.


[6.27.27] – Mets 5, Pirates 2 – Fulton (9-2) extends his winning streak to 5 with 8 strong innings. He strikes out 11 and walks only 2, it's his third double digit strikeout game of the season. Smith (27) drives in three and Scalfaro (23) and Short (8) also homer as Benes changes the lineup again. Moving Caraballo down to sixth and everyone else up one. Rushton (22) gets the save.
The Mets are 48-33 and 1 game behind the Braves and two ahead of the Philles.

[6.28.27] – Mets 6, Suns 5 – Valdes (2-3) goes five innings for the win and the bullpen pitches four scoreless innings allowing two hits with 7 strikeouts. Rushton (23) closes the door in the 9^th for the save. The Mets get five straight hits in the 3^rd when they jump out to a 5-2 lead including one of Smith's two doubles.
It is the Mets 6^th straight win and moves them into a tie in the NL East (and best record in baseball) with the Braves.


Vancouver Athletics second baseman Chris Wilson collects his 2500^th hit all with the A's franchise. At 34 years old he's got a good shot at 3000 hits. A starter since he was 21 in 2014 his lifetime split is 304/385/449 he's hit 300 nine times and never lower than 293 in a full season. He's scored 100 runs seven times (99 twice, 98 once) and driven in 100 just once. A four time All Star he has 4 career hitting streaks of 20 or more games. He is the A's Derek Jeter, but without vd.



[6.29.27] – Suns 7, Mets 4 – The Mets jump out to a 3-0 in the first, but Fisher allows 4 in the 3^rd and Atteridge allows 3 in the 4^th. The Mets out hit the Suns 14-8, but 13 of those are singles and they strand 13 runners on base, while the Suns leave just 3 on base.
The Mets remain in a tie with the Braves as both teams lost and the Phillies gain a game, the Brewers also pull into a tie with the Mets & Braves for best record in the game at 49-34.



[6.30.27] – Suns 7, Mets 6 (13 innings) – The Mets tie the game with 3 in the top of the 9^th off Suns closer Chris Kuhn, the tieing run scoring when Dickerson singles home Smith.
The Mets put men on base in the 10^th 11^th 12^th and 13^th but can't get a run across and they strand 16 runners. The fourth Mets reliever, Monje (1-3) takes the loss when he allows a 2-out single in the bottom of the 13^th in his third inning of work. Gardner was making his first attempt at 10 wins.

The Brewers became the first team in baseball with 50 wins.

[6.1.27] Lobos 5, Mets 3 (12 innings) – Fisher pitches well for nine innings, but Monje (1-2) allows two in the top of the 12^th. Smith (18) tied the game in the 6^th with a 2-run shot.


Mochihito Jouon, the London Kings second baseman hits three home runs in a game. It was a little odd for him to do this as he had never even hit more than one home run in a game. He would end up with just 6 home runs for the entire season.



[6.3.27] – Astros 10, Mets 8 – The bullpen fails again and the Mets waste three home runs, Scalfaro (13), Smith (19), Finley (10). Smith and Scalfaro each drive in three.



[6.4.27] – Astros 6, Mets 2 – Gardner (6-6) finds the middle of the plate too much and is knocked out in the fourth. Scalfaro (14) hits another home run and his average climbs to 292.


Bill Rowell, the 38yo Seoul Empire third baseman gets his 2500^th hit, the 2-time All-Star has won 6 GG and a WS ring with the Dodgers in 2021. He has 632 doubles at seasons end, good for 16^th all time.

Like the MVP awards, Gold Gloves are given out strictly on who's got the best defensive stats. Winning 6 GG in the sim is Ozzie Smith level defense, he is one of only two guys with six in the sim.



[6.5.27] – Astros 8, Mets 4 – Williamson (6-3) 4.2ip 10h 6r 5er 1bb 4k 1hr leaves in the fourth as the Mets are down 6-2. Scalfaro (15) hits his 7^th home run in the past 8 games.
The Mets (34-29) fall 4 back of the tied Braves and Phillies. They are 13-20 on the road and 21-9 at home.


Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Mike Cooper hits 3 home runs in a game for the second time in two weeks. This time his victim is the Cincinnati Reds in a 11-1 win. Ex-Met Jeff Hansen also hits a pair of home runs. They each drive in four runs.


Houston Astros third baseman Kijuro Sanu, 32yo Japanese import drives in his 1000^th career run. Earlier this season he collected his 300^th home run and 1500^th hit.



[6.6.27] – Mets 9, Brewers 3 – Fulton (6-2) strikes out 8 in eight innings and Rushton pitches the ninth to end the losing streak. Smith (20,21) hits a pair and scores 4 times. Finley (11) also hit one and Short gets three more hits.



[6.7.27] – Brewers 12, Mets 4 – The Mets lose Dyer to the DL for about 2 months with a strained rotator cuff. Fisher (2-6) 6.2ip 7h 5er 3bb 9k 1hr comes within a pitch of getting out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth, but ends up allowing three runs. The bullpen gets lit up again.
The Mets recall Spence to fill the spot Dyer opened up. Fisher will be replaced by Valdes next time around in the rotation according to Benes.


Scalfaro wins Player of the Week hitting 476 with 5hr 7rbi 6r over the last week. It is only the 4^th time he's won Player of the Week despite being a 9-time All-Star and 2-time MVP winner.


The Vancouver A's defeat the Tokyo Bears 6-5 in 18 innings. The A's finally break through in the 18^th with the winning run scoring on a bases loaded fielders choice. Bears reliever Pedro Paredes throws 7 scoreless innings (11-17^th) allowing 4 hits and striking out 3.



[6.8.27] – Mets 8, Brewers 0 – Marquez (6-2) allows four hits in five innings, striking out seven, but is lifted with back spasms and will be out about a month. The Mets call up Isamu Okazaki and have to put Fisher back in the rotation after he just lost his job to Valdes. This time the bullpen holds and three relievers strike out seven in four innings. Finley (12) hits a 2-run shot and drives in three.
The Mets are 36-30 and are four games behind the Braves and Phillies who are tied again.


The Seattle Mariners defeat the Dominican Republic Stars 22-3. It was 4-2 in the top of the 7^th when the Mariners scored 14 runs in the inning, they hit 5 doubles (two by catcher Luis Noroa) and a home run. DH Jorge Valenzuela batted three times in the inning, walking once and making the 1^st & 3^rd out.



[6.9.27] – Mets 9, Dodgers 1 – Gardner (7-6) 9ip 8h 1er 3bb 10k 1hr gets complete game six on the season. Smith (22,23) and Scalfaro (16) go back-to-back for the first time on the season in the first inning. Smith takes over the lead in the NL in average, rbis and home runs all in the same game, as he drives in 6 with a pair of 3-run homers.

Scalfaro accounts for the other three rbis with a pair of doubles in addition to his home run. Dodger superstar Luis Deleon goes 0-3 and falls behind Smith in homers and rbis, he had been leading the league in both categories until today's game.


London Kings starter Sean McKenzie strikes out 15. It's his first career 15k game.



[6.10.27] – Mets 9, Dodgers 7 (13 innings) – Each team scores twice in the first and after a 2-run Scalfaro double in the 5^th and a solo shot by Gonzalez (2) in the 6^th and the Mets are up 6-2. The Dodgers slowly chip away, scoring a single run in the final four innings as Rushton blows his 4^th save of the season.
Both bullpens keep things quiet until Hayes drives in a pair with a triple off a 42yo Clay Buchholz (2-1) took the loss. Alvarez (2-1) 2.1ip 3h 1er 3k got the win and LeBlanc (1) got his first save of the season. Scalfaro 6 1 3 4 raised his average to 300 for the first time this season.

Yes, that Clay Buchholz. He is one of the few real players left around. David Wright, the ex-Met is also still active. Wright will be a HOFer, 3200+ hits, 650+ doubles, 400+ home runs. He also has an MVP award back in 2008, the first year of the sim while still with the Mets.
In 2009 when I had to make the choice of either Reyes or Wright, I kept Reyes. I figured that the hamstring issues wouldn't translate into 1s and 0s and Wright had a career year in 2008 and wasn't going to replicate it.
Reyes is the Mets all-time franchise leader in most categories as I kept him in a Mets uniform until 2019, the year he retired.



[6.11.27] – Mets 9, Dodgers 7 – There were three lead changes, two ties, five errors, but only one unearned run. The Dodgers have 8 extra base hits and the Mets have five. LeBlanc (3-1) pitches an inning for the win and Rushton (16) gets the save. Every Mets starter has a hit and all but Pruitt scores a run.
The Mets sweep a series on the road for the second time of the season and are 39-30, three games behind Braves and two behind the Phillies.



[6.12.27] – Reds 3, Mets 1 – Fisher (2-7) 7ip 5h 3er 5bb 4k 2hr pitches well, but gets no support, half their hits come from Rea -who gets the start when Scalfaro sits- he also drives in the Mets only run.

Miguel Rea is another in the line of backup catchers I've had since Scalfaro became the Mets starter. They generally play 20 games or so as Scalfaro sits on a regular basis, never playing more than 145 games in a season.
These back ups are always good to very good defensively, never good offensively to be a starter and happy to be the back up. They also seem to get big hits when they do play.


[6.13.27] – Mets 4, Reds 2 – Fulton (7-2) 8ip 4h 2er 5bb 6k 1hr pitches well enough and Scalfaro (17) and Finley (13) each homer and Hayes steals his 14th base of the season. Rushton (17) gets the save.



[6.14.27] – Mets 4, Reds 1 – Gardner (8-6) strikes out 12 in 8 innings and Rushton (18) gets the save. Gonzalez (3) delivers the big blow with a 3-run homer in the second. Gardner takes over the league lead in era 2.84 and is third in strikeouts with 113.
The Mets are 41-31, a game behind the Phillies and two behind the Braves.

[5.17.27] Cardinals 9, Mets 0 – Gabriel Morales (1-7) crafts a gem, allowing five hits (all singles) and Valdes (1-3) 5.1ip 7h 7r 4er 5bb 3k gets beat up again. Anibal Gonzalez comes off the DL and goes 0-4 from the 8-spot, Kato was demoted.

[5.18.27] Mets 4, Cardinals 1 – Marquez (5-0) returns the favor against the Cardinals, 8ip 4h 1er 8k and Rushton (14) pitches the ninth for the save. Marquez hits his third double of the season to drive two and Scalfaro (7) hits a 2-run shot in the second.



[5.19.27] Mets 5, Cardinals 0 – Gardner (4-5) 9ip 7h 4bb 6k throws his second complete game shutout of the season and Scalfaro (8) hits a 2-run homer in the first to give the Mets a 3-0 lead. Smith (15) would hit one in the fifth.
The remained three behind the Phillies, tied with the Braves.



[5.20.27] Montes Scalfaro signed a 3-year extension for $58.78 million that will keep him in a Mets uniform until his 39^th birthday.

I'm pretty much going to pay him whatever he wants to stay in a Mets uniform until he retires. He is my George Brett, my Tony Gwynn, my Cal Ripken. He has been the franchise player the Mets deserve. 
When he finally does retire, it's going to be a different team. These kind of guys don't grow on trees. I know I have the best player in the game on my team (Ralph Smith), but I signed him as a free agent from the Cubs in 2024, so he'll never be a true franchise player. He was better as a Cub, winning the Triple Crown twice in a Cubs uniform, but he got his WS ring in NY (2024) and will hit major milestones in a Mets uniform.



[5.21.27] Cubs 2, Mets 0 – A good start is wasted. Williamson (4-2) 8ip 5h 2er 2bb 6k, he takes the loss in a complete game. Ju-long Hsieh (5-5) threw 2-hit ball for 8 innings, striking out eight and the Mets could do nothing against the Cubs pitcher.



[5.22.27] Cubs 4, Mets 3 – Fisher (2-4) gets the start and throws a complete game, but did not get enough offense. All three runs came on a Smith (16) home run. The Mets demote Spence to the minors to make room for outfielder Hayes back on the bench. He wasn't pitching bad, its just he was the only one with options.



[5.23.27] Cubs 8, Mets 6 – Marquez (5-1) 5ip 9h 4er 0bb 1k 2hr loses the first game of his career and the Mets get only one extra base hits (and 12 singles). Scalfaro and Gomez each get three hits. Dickerson strains a rib cage muscle and will be out four weeks, this is second centerfielder the Mets lose to the DL. Kato is brought back from New Orleans.
The Mets fall four games behind the Phillies and two games behind the Braves.



[5.24.27] Mets 13, Giants 3 – Gardner (5-5) 9ip 10h 3er 4bb 8k throws another complete game and the offense explodes for seven runs in the fifth. After opening the inning with two singles and two walks, the Mets hit for the cycle. A Scalfaro double drives home two, Finley (6) hits a three run shot, Short singles, Gonzalez triples and they go up 11-3. Hayes (2) put the Mets up 2-0 in the third.


Mike Cooper, the Milwaukee second baseman, hit three home runs in a game. The former Rookie Supreme (2024) and NL HR Champ of 2025 (48) collects his second 3-home run game in less than a year.


The Texas Rangers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 23-5. They score in every inning but the 7^th and pound out 13 extra base hits. The top two hitters in the order [Carlos Hernandez and Jesus Molina, the 2023 AL MVP] each have two home runs and drive in six a piece. For each of them, its their first home runs of the season.



[5.25.27] Mets 3, Giants 0 – Fulton (5-2) strikes out 11 in seven innings and allows just two hits. Three relievers pitch the final two innings striking out every batter. Rushton (15) gets the final three strikeouts and the save. The Giants strike out 17 times. Finley (7) tacks on the final run in the 8^th with a solo shot.


After allowing 20 runs the game before, the Orioles return the favor and defeat the Texas Rangers 21-7. Down 3-0 in the second the Orioles score 15 in the next three innings. Paul Simpson, the 40yo, goes 4-for-4 with five runs scored, four rbis and hits a pair of home runs. The two time All-Star (2020,21) he started his career at shortstop and played there until 2021 (1107 games), since then he's split time between first and second. Winning a GG in 2023 at first base. A borderline HOFer at best. He's got no Top 10 mvp votes.

The reason I list how many times he was an All Star or Gold Glove or how many top 10 MVP finishes a player has is to give you an idea of how good a player he is.
The sim has no favorites, there's no fan voting, so All-Star games are based completely who has the best stats. Same as the MVP voting. One All Star game could be a fluke, multiple appearances means they're a good player, five or more and he's a potential HOFer.



[5.26.27] Mets 11, Giants 4 – Williamson (5-2) 7.1ip 8h 4er 5bb 5k, the Mets bats go crazy again, Short has four hits, four other Mets get two hits each. Finley (8) drives in three as the Mets complete the sweep.
The Mets (33-22) climb back into a tie with the Braves, but are still three games behind the Phillies and they travel to Philadelphia for three games. The Phillies are looking to get some revenge from being swept earlier in the season.


Luis Torrez, 31- year old Houston Astros pitcher strikes out 16 Brewers. It is his third 15+ strikeout game in the past calendar year. In six seasons he is averaging a strikeout/inning.



[5.27.27] Phillies 12, Mets 4 – Fisher (2-5) 4ip 8h 5er 4k 1hr gets hammered as do three other relievers for eight extra base hits. Scalfaro (9) also doubles.



[5.28.27] Phillies 12, Mets 1 – Marquez (5-2) 2.2ip 7h 6er 1bb 4k 1hr doesn't make it out of the 3^rd as the Phillies put up seven in that inning. Sheppard allows four runs in an inning for the second straight game and the Phillies get five more extra base hits. The road woes continues as they drop to 12-17 on the road.



[5.29.27] Mets 12, Phillies 3 – The Mets get a little revenge as Gardner (6-5) strikes out 12 in 7.2 innings. Scalfaro (10) and Finley (9) go back-to-back in the 4^th as the Mets go up 8-1. Hayes gets his fourth hit of the day (and second double) to drive in the final two in the 7^th and the Mets get a season high 19 hits.
The Mets 33-24 close the gap behind the Phillies back to 4 and are two behind the Braves.



[5.30.27] Lobos 3, Mets 2 – Fulton pitches a gem 8ip 2h 1er 3bb 9k, but Rushton blows his third save of the season. The Mets only get five hits of their own, including two more extra bases from Scalfaro (11) who raised his average to 277.


Robby 'Riverboat' Holt, 32yo Tampa Rays catcher drove in run 1000 for his career. 3-time All Star (2019, 20, 23).

The San Diego Padres defeat the Washington Nationals 4-2 in 20 innings. Each team only gets a runner as far as third once until Dorian Boyer, 27yo first baseman hits a 2-run shot in the top of the 20^th off Antonio Vazquez.



[5.31.27] Mets 7, Lobos 1 – Williamson (6-2) turns back time allowing just 3 hits while striking out 12 in a complete game. Smith (17) drove in three and Scalfaro (12) hits a home run in his third straight games.

In the top of the 8^th Williamson struck out Kevin Leighton for his 3000^th career strikeout, he becomes the 23rd member of the 3000 strikeout club. He is the 7th pitcher to hit 3000 career strikeouts since the sim era started.
The other seven are John Smoltz (2008), Mike Mussina (2010), Javier Vazquez (2015), Zack Greinke (2021), Dave Gilmore (2026), Diego Franco (2026).
Some of the names are familiar, but only Smoltz hit 3000 irl. Mussina retired in 2008, Vazquez in 2011 without getting to 3000. Greinke just passed 1700 irl and is six 200-strikeout seasons from 3000, so he's actually on track.

The other three guys Gilmore, Franco and Williamson have been among the best pitchers in the sim era and at least two of them are Hall of Famers
