2027 OFF SEASON - Part 2

The game provides all the stats, I provide the stories and the personalities.

[10.11.2026] – The Mets season ends with a Game 6 loss at home to the Atlanta Braves in the NLSF (National League Semi Final). The Mets defeated the Venezuala Lobos in the Opening Round to meet the Braves.
The NLSF is the second round of the playoffs. In 2027, eight teams (out of 18) from each league make the playoffs, the four division winners and four wild card winners. The playoffs have included eight teams since 2020 when baseball expanded to 18 teams in each league

[10.16.2026] – The Mets resigned long time shortstop Braeden Pruitt to a 2-year contract for $4.57 million. He will turn 42 right before the start of the season and he is coming off one of better years. He hit 270/381/379 and had career highs in rbis (71) and walks (78). [The split, when written as three numbers is average/on base/slugging]
He has been the Mets shortstop since 2020 and part of the reason why they've made the NLSF every year he's been on the team. Loved by the fans and his teammates, he's picked up the nickname 'Gluey', he's one of the smartest players in the league and a leader in the clubhouse.
Pruitt was brought in after Jose Reyes finally showed signs of slowing down in 2019 to play shortstop, despite being just one year younger than Reyes. He is a very good fielder, he won a Gold Glove his first year as a Met. Since then he's averaged 140 games/season at short and been a leader on the field, directing the infield and teaching the younger guys.
He had his best season in 2022 at the age of 37. He hit 295/354/393 and had his second career 5-hit day, but then a strained mcl in September kept him sidelined for the entire post season. He watched the Mets win their first World Series since 1986 from the bench, acting as an extra coach.
When he finally does retire, expect the Mets to find a spot for him as a coach in their system.

[10.29.26] – The Washington Nationals win their first World Series with an 8-7 win in Game 7 victory against the Havana Revolution. The Nationals had a 3-1 series lead before the Revolution won games 5 & 6 to tie the series at three.
In Game 7 the team from Cuba was up 7-0 after six innings and their fans were getting ready to celebrate back-to-back World Series championships. They were eight outs from another title and the Field of the Revolution was rocking.
The Nats got one in the 7th to make it a 7-1 game. In the 8th the Nationals sent 12 men to the plate and score 7 times to take an 8-7 lead. Washington reliever Roberto Ramirez closed out the game on an easy 5-4 force to save his fourth game of the series and 8th of the playoffs.
The shocking loss by the Revolution caused minor property damage to the city of Havana during the riots, just like last season. The Nationals made sure to get the hell off the field after winning the game as the fans in Cuba have a 'reputation'.
'Revolutionaries' as Havana fans are known, are similar to Philly fans, but instead of beer, it's rum they've been drinking all game. Last year their WS celebration caused millions of dollars in damage to the city and was highlighted by the release of a pair of elephants from the local zoo.
Their home stadium, the Field of the Revolution, has been voted worst stadium to visit six straight seasons, but was the only stadium big enough to hold a major league team in the country. Their new stadium is still a season away.

The playoff MVP was Nationals 1b Stephen Molyneaux (who win probably win the Ted Willams Award two weeks from now). The choice for the 26yo superstar was easy, he hit 505/552/796 in the Nationals 23 playoff games. He had 47 hits, hit five home runs, drove in 15, scored 20 and had as many triples as strikeouts (3) in 104 postseason plate appearances. He had a hit in the last 19 games of the playoffs, had 7 games of 3 or more hits. He set a handful of WS records.

After winning both the Rookie Supreme and Ted Williams Award in 2025, the Canadian Molyneaux had an even better season in 2026 when he hit 391/477/709. He collected 246 hits, hit 46 home runs, drove in 140 runs, scored 131 times and played in all 162 games again. In his first two years he's had the second and fifth best seasons for Total Bases. Ever.

The list now reads:
Babe Ruth 457 (1920)
Stephen Molyneaux 455 (2025)
Rogers Hornsby 450 (1922)
Lou Gehrig 447 (1927)
Stephen Molyneaux 446 (2026)

The Ted Williams Award is my sim name of the MVP award. Rookie of the Year became Rookie Supreme and the Cy Young has been renamed the Walter Johnson Award. Deal with it.

[11.4.26] – Ralph Smith finishes second in the NL MVP race. Smith hit 369/483/665 48hr 136rbi 132r 133bb. Normally stats like that win MVPs, but he had the misfortune of having his season when Stephen Molyneaux had one of the top 5 offensive seasons ever.

[11.4.26] – Payton Rushton finishes second in the Walter Johnson Award [10-5 32sv 1.90sv 80.1ip 98k 1.05whip]

[11.4.26] – John Brooks wins a Gold Glove in centerfield. It is his third Gold Glove, second in the NL.

[11.7.26] – The Mets sign Ernest Franklin (trainer) to a 4 year contract at $534,000/year.

[11.10.26] – The Mets resign Cecil Fielder as their bench coach, this will be his ninth season as Mets bench coach. The deal is for 1 year, $780,000. Yes, Big Daddy is my bench coach.

[11.12.26] – The Mets sign Pedro Lopez to be the manager of their Triple A affiliate, the New Orleans Zephyrs.

[11.15.26] – Murat Seselj signs a contract to be the manager of the Brooklyn Cyclones, a single A team of the Mets.

Another thing I have done in the sim is to make it a more international game. Every country has rating on how popular baseball in that country. I have increased the popularity in some countries, especially ones that I have put minor league teams in. This has lead to guys like this manager, he's from Saudi Arabia. Another odd pipeline for players is Brazil. I've had a pair of second basemen from Brazil.

[11.16.26] – The Mets re-sign middle reliever John LeBlanc to a 2-year/$11.44 deal. Signed by the Mets back in 2015 in the second round out of Iowa State.
By the middle of 2017 he was in New York and helped the Mets during their playoff run. He took over the closer's role at the end of the season for a struggling Gerardo Lopez and helped the Mets fend of the Marlins down the stretch and win the division by a game.
His 15 saves as a rookie are still a career high, the right-handed pitcher throws two pitches, a fast ball that tops out at 99 and a change-up that's 10-12 mph slower. In 10 full seasons he's 64-34 49sv 3.10era 745.2ip 963k. He's got six seasons with over 100k despite having a career high of 95ip. In those 10 seasons he's bounced back and forth from being the 7th and the 8th inning guy.

I really have no idea where this guy went to school, so I use their home state as where they went to college. If they are drafted out of high school I'll google their home town to find a suitable school.

[11.20.26] – The following Mets were awarded the following amounts in arbitration:
3b John Wyatt $400k
rp Carlos Alvarez $3.38 mil
lf Ramiro Gomez $1.23 mil
2b Chris Short $8.09 mil
rf Anibal Gonzalez $7.29 mil
rp Mark Sheppard $2.65 mil
rp Gabriel Valdes $400k
c Miguel Rea $400k
lf Bailey Finley $3.78 mil
if Roberto Rodrgiuez $400k
of Ndungu Saeed $400k

[12.8.26] – The GCL Mets sign Jason Schmidt to be their pitching coach. No, not the ex-Pirate pitcher.

[12.13.26] – Thirty four years after entering the NL together, the Colorado Rockies and Florida Marlins move to new home cities on the same day.

The Rockies move to London and become the London Kings, becoming the first major league team in the EU. In 34 years as the Rockies, they go 2568-2881 making the playoffs only three times. The franchise high for wins is 92 in 2019, the only time in the sim era (since 2008) that they have made the playoffs and their only NL West regular season championship.
Coors Field was starting to show its age and the city couldn't get a new stadium passed despite all the pot money in the state. For a team that used to normally draw 3 million plus, they barely drew 2 million two years ago.

The Marlins move to Sao Paulo, Brazil and become the Sao Paulo Samba, the second team in South American. In 34 years as the Marlins, they go 2578-2863 making the playoffs four times, winning a pair of World Series titles (1997, 2003). They won two NL East regular season crowns (2011, 2015) the only two times in the past 23 seasons that they've made the playoffs, winning a franchise high 102 games in 2015.

The Kings will move to the NL East, joining the Mets, Braves, Phillies and Nationals.

The Samba remain in the NL South, with the Monterrey Suns, Astros and Venezuela Lobos.

[2.9.27] – The Mets trade Leslie Hennessey to the Boston Red Sox for sp Felix Arroyo. Hennessey went 14-14 4.72era 148.1ip over three seasons. The Mets have a glut of number 5 starters so someone had to go for a new face from New Orleans to come up.
Arroyo is just 19 and signed from the bean fields of Puerto Rico but has electric stuff and will start the season in the minors.

2027 OFF SEASON - Part 1.5

I guess I should provide a snapshot of what baseball looks like 20 years into the sim era. Thirty-six teams, 18 in each league, no more inter-league play.

Here are the final standings for the 2026 National League

Most of the teams should be familiar to everyone, but there have been some changes.

First, the London Kings and the Sao Paulo Samba shouldn't actually exist, yet. Those teams moved from their current home (Colorado and Florida, respectively) after this season, but I changed their names too early in the sim and it applied it to the past season. This explains why the London Kings are in the NL West.

The NL has added two teams in the sim era, both in 2020 when the Venezuela Lobos and the Monterrey Suns joined. They moved to the newly formed NL South and joined the Astros and the Marlins in the new division.

The AL on the other hand has been shaken up. Three teams moved, four were added through expansion, three changed their names and only the AL East still exists.

The city name changes, Chicaga White Sox, Gotham Yankees and Anaheim Angels, are purely to ease my record keeping.
When looking at a players stats, it lists the city of the team he played for, but not the league, so I had no way to know which Chicago or Los Angeles team he played for. Heading into the 2022 season I changed the home cities so now I could tell which team anyone played for.

The four teams the AL have added happened in two rounds. In 2018, the Toyko Bears joined the AL West and the Havana Revolution joined the AL Central. There were still only three divisions in each league, but now there were 16 teams in each league.

The AL Migration began in 2019, when the Oakland A's moved up the coast and over the border to become the Vancouver A's. This is the franchise's fourth move, each time moving further west. They began in Philadelphia, then moved to Kansas City, Oakland and now, Vancouver.

It is slightly further west according to wikipedia. San Francisco 37'47'N 122'25'W, Vancouver 49'15'N 123'6'W.

The Minnesota Twins also moved in 2019 when they became the first team south of the border and became the Mexico Aztecs. This is the franchises third move and become the first franchise to play in the capital of two countries (Washington & Mexico City).

Another team moves in 2020. The Kansas City Royals move to Seoul, South Korea and join the Tokyo Bears as the only two teams in the Far East.

Two more teams are added in 2020 to the American League. [A total of four teams were added to baseball in 2020, there are now 36 teams overall, 18 in each league.]
The Dominican Republic Stars and the Puerto Rico Eagle are the two expansion teams and the divisions undergo a huge change, a fourth is created and two others renamed.

I have plans to expand baseball to 40 teams in the next 4-6 seasons as well as move a team or two. Expect another team in the Far East and another in the EU, possibly two teams in each. There are also two franchises I'm looking at for relocation.
Even when I go to 40 teams I will keep it only 8 teams in each league make the playoffs.
