[5.2.27] – Mets 3, Suns 2 – Marquez (3-0) 7ip 2er 4bb 5k actually scored the go ahead run in the fifth as he scored on a single. Rushton (11) struck out 2 for the save. The winning streak reaches 7 games.
[5.3.27] – Suns 5, Mets 4 (10 innings) – Gardner (2-4) 9ip 10h 5r 4er 4bb 8k 2hr, pitches into the 10th, but allows Jaime 'Funky' Rocha to hit a lead off home run. The Mets can do nothing in the bottom of the inning, losing their first extra inning game of the season and ending the streak at seven games. They remain two behind the Braves and Phillies, still tied for first. The Mets are 19-14.
[5.4.27] – Mets 11, Samba 9 – The Mets first trip to Sao Paulo results in a crazy game. The Mets blew leads of 3-1 and 6-3 and came back from 8-7 and 9-8 deficits. The Mets got only 9 hits, but six were for extra bases, including five home runs, Scalfaro (4), Smith (11), Caraballo (7), Finley (4,5). They also received 12 walks. It was the Scalfaro homer in the 8th, a 2-run shot that turned the 9-8 deficit into a 10-9 lead, that decided the game. He also hit a double and walked three times, raising his average to 222.
Williamson didn't make it to the 5th inning and Alvarez (1-1) got the win despite allowing a run in his only inning. Dyer put two men on in the 9th before getting the last two outs for his second save.
[5.5.27] – Mets 7, Samba 4 – Valdes (1-2) pitches into the 9th, then it takes three relievers to close the door, Rushton (12) striking out the only man he faces. Valdes also becomes the first Mets pitcher ever to have two hits in one inning, when the Mets bat around in the 6th scoring six times.
Pruitt and Scalfaro had three hits each, the latter raising his average to 239. Benes seems in no rush to move Scalfaro out of the 7-hole just yet, especially since the first six guys in the lineup are all over 300.
[5.6.27] – Samba 2, Mets 0 – The Mets are stymied by Jim Kelley (1-6) who throws eight scoreless innings. The Mets strand 14 runners and have base runners in every frame, they leave two men on in the 6th and 9th and the bases loaded in the 7th. Fulton (4-2) takes the loss despite allowing two unearned runs.
The loss snaps the 6-game road winning streak the Mets had, they are now 8-10 on the road and 21-15 over all, still two games behind the Phillies and Braves who are still tied atop the NL East.

Mets manager, Alan Benes The less famous of the forgotten Benes Brothers |
For the next game Benes has changed the lineup again, moving Scalfaro back up in the order
cf-Brooks R
ss-Pruitt L
3b-Caraballo R
1b-Smith S
c-Scalfaro S
rl-Finley L
2b-Short R
lf-Gomez L
[5.9.27] – Kings 3, Mets 2 – Gardner (2-5) throws his third complete game of the season, striking out 12, but takes the loss. Brooks fractures his cheekbone when he runs into the wall tracking down a long fly in the fourth inning. He is out for 3 months.
Gordon 'Parisian Bob' Tofield, 25-year old St Louis Cardinals pitcher strikes out out 15 in 9 innings. He's not around for the decision, but the Cards win on a walk off double in the 12th for a 6-5 win. Each team scored 3 in the 11th inning. He is later traded in the season to the San Diego Padres.
[5.10.27] – The Mets re-sign closer Payton Rushton to a three year extension for $34.45 million. Part of the Mets bullpen since 2019, he spent four years as a set up man before becoming closer in 2023. He missed all of 2025 with an injury, but returned to be the closer in 2026. With 138 saves he is fifth on the Mets all-time list and leads the franchise with an era of 2.07 for a career over 500 innings.
[5.10.27] – The Mets trade pitching prospect Ken Muller to the Pirates for cf Bob 'Gypsy' Dickerson. Dickerson will step right in, bat lead off and play centerfield. The 24 year old Dickerson has plus range and a good arm. An outstanding base runner, he still strikeouts too much for a good lead off hitter.
Muller is 27yo and has made 71 starts in Triple A New Orleans over the past four seasons and has never been able to make the break through to the big leagues in New York.
It's a perfect trade, the Pirates need arms and the Mets needed any everyday cf now that Brooks will be out for three months, and that's what they got.
[5.10.27] – Kings 6, Mets 5 (11 innings) – Williamson 2.2ip 6h 5er 1bb 0k gets knocked around but the bullpen allows just 2 hits and 2 bb in final 8.1 innings with 11k. The bad news is that one of those hits was an 11th inning home run off Rushton (0-2) by Mattis Gareau (13).
In his return to his place in the batting order behind Smith, Scalfaro goes 0-3 with 2bb and 2k, including striking out in the bottom of the ninth with the winning run at second in the person of speedster Taizo Kato, who was brought up when Hayes went on the DL.
The Mets streak of winning series ends at seven and its the first series loss at home. The Mets are 22-17 and three games behind the Philles, who have finally separated themselves from the Braves, albeit by just a game.
[5.11.27] – Nationals 6, Mets 5 (10 innings) – The Mets hit six doubles, but Rushton blows his first save of the season by allowing two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Monje (1-1) takes the loss by allowing a walk-off home run to Antonio Gonzalez (5). The losing streak reaches three games.
[5.12.27] – Mets 11, Nationals 9 – The Mets score seven times in the first and have a 10-4 lead after four innings. The Nationals chip away and get it down to 11-9 and have the bases loaded with reigning NL MVP Steven Molyneuax (4 for 5 with a homer in the 8th) at the plate. He is facing Monje, who is into close because Rushton has pitched the last two days. On an 0-1 slider he rips it past the mound, right to Pruitt who was playing two steps up the middle. He took it to second for the force to end the game. And what had been a very noisy, wet crowd went completely silent in a second.
Pruitt walked four times, the starter Valdes had a pair of doubles and is hitting 417 this season and Smith (12) connected in the 2nd to put the Mets up 9-2
[5.13.27] – Mets 7, Nationals 2 – Marquez (4-0) 9ip 6h 3er 1bb 7k 1hr, goes the distance to give the overworked bullpen some time off leading into a series with the Atlanta Braves. Pruitt (7) hits a home run, Dickerson has three hits and four rbi, Gomez has three hits and scores two runs.
The Mets are 24-18 and three games behind the Phillies in the NL East and two behind the Braves, who are their next opponent.
[5.14.27] – Mets 6, Braves 3 – Gardner (3-5) pitches into the ninth again and was one out away from another complete game when he allowed Gustuvo Gonzalez (8,9) to hit a solo home run, his second off the game. Rushton (13) threw three straight strikes to end the game.
The Mets had seven extra base hits including Caraballo (9), with a solo shot in the 6th. Dickerson had a pair of doubles and Pruitt had three more hits.
The Arizona Diamondbacks defeat the Washington Nationals 20-6. The Diamondbacks score 10 in the first and seven more in the second. Its 19-0 after three innings. They hit nine doubles, six in the first inning including two by catcher Pedro Medina.
[5.15.27] – Mets 6, Braves 5 (12 innings) – In a wildly exciting game, the Mets win their longest game of the year with a walk-off wild pitch. Williamson 8ip 5h 3er 2bb 4k 1hr, lost the win when Rushton blew his second save of the season by allowing the Braves to tie the game at 5.
The Mets led 5-1 heading into the top of the 8th. Williamson was on cruise control, allowing only two base runners after a second inning home run, but he allowed a lead off single in the 8th and followed it up with a wild pitch. A walk and two singles later it was 5-3 Mets. Rushton came on in the 9th for the save and in a five pitch sequence the game was tie (single, double, balk, sac fly). LeBlanc entered the game and allowed back-to-back singles and it was first and third with one out. He responded by striking out the next two guys.
After the Mets did nothing in the 9th, the Braves got three straight singles off LeBlanc and it was bases-loaded, no outs. Benes went to the pen and summoned Monje, who promptly struck out the side and New Ebbets went crazy when he got the third out. He stuck around for the 10th and struck out the side again.
No real threats until the bottom of the 12th when Gomez reached second on an error by the second baseman who kicked it down the line in right, allowing Gomez, who was hustling out of the box, to reach second. Palacios hit a ground ball behind the runner putting him at third with one out. The Braves walked Dickerson to put runners at the corner, which brought Pruitt to the plate. In the 10th Pruitt grounded into a double play with men on 1st and 2nd, the Braves were hoping for a similar outcome. This time he didn't even have to put it in play as Edgar Estanga threw an 0-2 pitch to the backstop allowing Gomez to score.
The Mets and the Braves are now tied in second at 26-18, three games behind the Phillies.
It also has two of the odder lines you'll see. Monje's is perfect Monje 2ip 6k, while LeBlanc .2ip 5h 0r is something you don't see everyday. Pitch less than an inning, allow 5 hits and NO runs? None of those hits drove in anyone either.
[5.16.27] – Mets 9, Braves 7 – Another walk off for the Mets, this one, a little more dramatic.
It doesn't start good for the Mets as Fulton 4.1ip 6h 7er 5bb 8k put the Mets in a 7-2 hole.

With the 55000+ plus crowd drowning out the planes going over head. Smith hit a 1-2 fastball into the third deck, he gave a little bat flip (something the Braves won't forget) and was mauled at home by his teammates.
Spence (3-0) 3ip 2h 1bb 1k picked up the win in relief. Smith was 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs (13,14) and 6 rbis. The sweep of the Braves, moved them ahead of Atlanta in the standings and they gained a game on the Phillies and are now two games back. The winning streak is five.
The Gotham Yankees defeat the Seattle Mariners 20-2. The Yankees score five in the first and its get worse from there for the Mariners. Its 18-0 in the top of the sixth when the first Mariner reaches second base. They were held down by 36yo Tom Brown (6-1), who's been a Yankee since 2017. He became closer in 2018 and kept that job until 2022. After 165 saves in five season he made the transition to the starting rotation and has won 53 games as a starter in four seasons and is off to a great start this season.
The Yankees get 18 hits, but only three are for extra bases. Lee King (12) leads the way 4-for-5 and started everything with a first inning 3-run homer.
The soon to be 37yo (next week) is a 7-time All Star (4 NL, 3 AL) and is oft injured. Over his first 12 seasons he's missed an average of a month/season. He will go down in July with another injury, this time a torn groin muscle that will have him out until next August.

The Monterrey Suns defeat the Sao Paulo Samba 21-4. They bat around in consecutive innings (5th and 6th) turning a 6-4 game into a 18-4 game. Second baseman Chris Kunkel (4) goes 4-for-6 with 6rbis from the leadoff spot, he hits 2 doubles, a home run and steals a base. The 26yo is oldest of the four rising stars on this Suns team.
Bob Edwards, 25 yo Cleveland Indian outfielder hits for the cycle. It is his only triple of the year.
